Organization Description:
The Solano County Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures is a local government organization in which job activities are focused on promoting and protecting the agricultural industry, public health, and the environment. The office enforces laws and regulations that assure agricultural trade, commerce, and marketplace equity.
Sponsor's Responsibilities:
The sponsor works in the Pesticide Use Enforcement Team in a variety of programs including but not limited to: restricted materials permitting, hazardous materials inspections, pesticide application and monitoring inspections in agricultural and structural settings, oversight of commodity and structural fumigations, compliance inspections of Certified Farmers Markets, providing pest ID to the general public and general customer service.
Extern's Proposed Duties:
Will be exposed to several of the sponsor's programs in the areas of Pesticide Use Enforcement, and possibly areas of Pest Prevention and Weights and Measures. May ride alongside staff for parcel inspections, nursery stock inspections, detection trapping routes, pesticide storage headquarter inspections, and/or other programs. Will have ample time to communicate with employees and supervisors about the career and job opportunities. Shadow and assist various staff. Main goal of sponsor's office hosting an extern is to provide an introduction to potential career opportunities in the agricultural field.
