Founded in 1945, Kaiser Permanente is recognized as one of America’s leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans. We currently serve 12.3 million members in 8 states and the District of Columbia. Regional Health Education (RHE) is an internal consulting group for the Northern California region. Sponsor's Responsibilities:
As a senior consulting associate I work on a variety of projects to support our mission. My current portfolio includes: 1) Cancer screening. I partner with colleagues to increase screening rates for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer. My most recent work involves making improvements to the FIT kit, a way to screen for colorectal cancer. 2) Cold and Flu. I work to promote the flu vaccine and manage content for patients on how to care for themselves when they get sick. 3) Lab Optimization. I work to reduce unnecessary lab testing by creating pre-written communications physicians can use when patients ask for an inappropriate lab test. 4) Operational efficiency. I am working on a pilot project to streamline email communication between patients and providers.

Extern's Proposed Duties:
The extern will shadow me for the day. I sit in an office and most days I spend at my computer and in meetings or on phone calls. I will work with the student to try to pick a day that will be engaging and suits the extern's interests. Examples can include a site visit to the local medical center to perform user testing on cancer screening materials, meeting with the director of culturally responsive care, attending a presentation on a recent initiative, etc. However, my schedule is variable and will not be finalized until the week before. The extern should use this opportunity to ask me questions about the field of Public Health and my career. I look forward to meeting you!!
