Organization Description:
OTTP is a nonprofit organization serving youth in the Bay Area ages 3-24 impacted by various challenges including mental health and trauma. We provide a strengths-based client-centered model comprised of a team of occupational therapists, social workers, psychiatric nurse practitioner, and psychotherapists to provide services and programs to our youth. Our programs include school-based, vocational training, sensory integration, psychosocial groups, and 1:1 outpatient support.
Sponsor's Responsibilities:
The core of occupational therapy (OT) is a belief in health through doing; doing may range from participating in daily activities to identifying values. As a community psychosocial OT at OTTP, the sponsor provides interventions to leverage a youth's interests and strengths to facilitate optimal well-being; this can include building social skills, problem-solving, emotional regulation, healthy risk-taking, and positive self-concept. The sponsor leads psychosocial groups at alternative high schools and individual sessions with youth in the community (i.e. cafe, library, home).
Extern's Proposed Duties:
The extern will observe the sponsor's individual and group sessions with the youth, travel with the sponsor in the community to meet with youth, interact with other agency staff including social workers and psychotherapists, and observe the workings of a community mental health non-profit. The extern will be required to comply with confidentiality paperwork, provide a valid ID, and provide results of a negative TB test from last 12 months as we will be working with vulnerable populations.
