The Oakland Police Department is responsible for law enforcement and policing services in the city of Oakland, California.
Sponsor's Responsibilities:
As a police officer in the Patrol Division, the sponsor is responsible for responding to calls for service (911 and non-emergency calls), engaging with the community, and conducting proactive policing efforts within the framework of a progressive police department.
Extern's Proposed Duties:
The extern will have a firsthand look at the duties of a patrol officer in a large urban city facing many challenges. The extern will be able to observe how the department operates, be exposed to modern-day policing, see how social issues manifest in an urban area, and have a chance to assist the sponsor with some duties.
