Externship Details:

Organization Description:
The City of New York’s Mayor’s Office of Contract Services (MOCS) is an oversight and service agency that is dedicated to optimizing existing operations and transforming processes to make it easier to do business with the City. MOCS’ mission is to lead procurement in New York City and ensure procurement is fair, responsible, and timely. We are doing this through technology innovation and partnership engagement. This Externship is an opportunity to participate in and observe a dynamic and growing City agency pursuing critical reforms. Procurement is an important tool for government to achieve its policy goals and programmatic missions. The City of New York procures more than $20 billion of goods and services every year from a diverse pool of vendors that represent various industries to provide direct services to New Yorkers, maintain the City’s infrastructure, and secure the operation of City government. Visit our website to learn more about MOCS.

Sponsor's Responsibilities:
Policy and Partnerships is leading MOCS in stakeholder engagement across business communities and in partnership with City Hall and elected officials. The work includes identifying opportunities for policy reform, collaborating with stakeholders in technology and policy design, and implementing change across the City of New York, including the 40 Mayoral agencies.

Extern's Proposed Duties:
The Extern will receive an educational experience that exposes them to City government and public policy. The Extern will meet with staff from other divisions within MOCS to get a sense of the agency as a whole; sit in on MOCS’ engagements with external stakeholders (nonprofit providers, vendors, etc.) to learn about the collaborative nature of our procurement policy initiatives; and, if time permits, assist the Policy & Partnerships staff research projects.
