Organization Description: The Contra Costa County Public Works Department provides for the construction, maintenance, and improvement of infrastructure within the unincorporated area of Contra Costa County (CCC), CCC Flood Control & Water Conservation District, as well as county buildings and grounds. Public Works maintains 660 miles of roads and 150 miles of streams, channels, and other drainage facilities, as well as maintains 90+ county buildings.
Sponsor's Responsibilities: As the Senior Civil Engineer in the Flood Control Division, the sponsor is responsible for reviewing proposed project impacts on planned and existing facilities and their capacity to provide flood protection, reviews projects from a physical and hydrologic viewpoint, maintenance of Flood Control District facilities including creeks, channels, basins, and dams, provides technical information and education to cities and the community, and assist with each program's budget.
Extern's Proposed Duties: The extern’s visit may include simple planning or design tasks, attending a staff or community meeting, touring County Flood Control facilities, or visiting a project site. If desired, the student may also meet with other engineers in other Public Works Department Divisions of road planning, design, construction, or environmental services.
