Organization Description:
The office of the Alternate Defender was established in 1996, and currently has a dedicated and diverse staff of over 30 Deputy Alternate Defenders, Investigators, Paralegals, and Support Staff. We are committed to ensure that the right to effective and competent legal representation in criminal and juvenile delinquency cases is a reality for those in Santa Clara County who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. Our goal is to always seek the best ethical and legal outcomes possible through vigorous and devoted legal representation.
Sponsor's Responsibilities:
Sajid represents indigent clients accused of various felonies, primarily homicides. This representation includes jury trials, motion writing and litigation and plea bargaining. Sajid's daily activities include, but are not limited to, making court appearances, visiting clients in custody, participating in investigation, conducting legal research and making crime scene visits.
Extern's Proposed Duties:
The extern will observe court appearances, including potential jury trials (depending on scheduling), will participate in client interviews and case strategy sessions, and interact with a variety of public defenders.
