Organization Description:
The County of Orange HealthCare Agency's Juvenile Recovery Court (JRC) is a collaborative justice program that addresses the serious drug use issues of youth. The JRC program supports the youth’s commitment to a clean and sober life by providing treatment, supervision, and services to help the youth abstain from substance use and criminal behavior. Under the leadership of the judge and the court, the multi-agency JRC team supports program participants and helps them achieve their long term sobriety and life goals.
Sponsor's Responsibilities:
As a clinical psychologist within the JRC program, I provide assessment, case management, individual and group therapy, and psychological testing services to program participants.
Extern's Proposed Duties:
The extern(s) will have the opportunity to attend a morning court staffing with the members of the collaborative court team where the cases on calendar for that day will be discussed. During lunch, the extern(s) will be able to ask questions of the sponsor, discuss their goals and interests, and meet other clinicians that work in the JRC program (and other county programs as well). After lunch, the extern(s) will observe the afternoon court proceedings when the judge dialogues with program participants, celebrates their achievements, and sanctions their non-compliant behaviors. After court, the extern(s) will meet again with the sponsor to debrief, share their impressions of the proceedings, and ask any questions that may have come up over the course of the day.
