Duarte Unified School District is a premier regional school district located in Los Angeles County. Historically serving communities of Bradbury, Duarte, and an unincorporated Los Angeles County area known as South Monrovia Island, DUSD has recently reconfigured grade levels and transformed into a regional school district across southern California.

Sponsor's Responsibilities:
Professional 1. Meet professional and educational standards required. 2. Meet the course requirements as identified by California Education Code and applicable curricular standards. 3. Meet obligations as specified by the Board of Education. 4. Keep informed of current educational trends and stay up with professional development, classes and seminars, etc. 5. Share in responsibility for effective school operations. Instructional 1. Develop, plan and implement appropriate activities. 2. Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching methods. 3. Select suitablematerials, equipment, and resources. 4. Monitor student progress by using effective assessments and by maintaining records. 5. Provide instructions in middle school sciences, Earth Science and Physics, as well as academic support at the college level (Pasadena City College EOP&S position)

Extern's Proposed Duties:
This extern will observe the coordinator’s lessons and methods of engaging students, sit in meeting if necessary, and meet with other department teachers. If time permits, the extern(s) will likely be given a small research project to identify some best practices of instructions. There will be a small amount of screening at no cost, as this is a public school, but a confidentiality agreement is not needed prior to the start of externship. Proof of TB clearance is required due to likelihood of interactions with children under 18, and minimal paperwork is needed to fill out to gain permission to observe classroom activities. The coordinator (teacher) provides support with these forms if he is notified between November and December of extern(s)'s interest to partake in this opportunity.
