Organization Description:
The Associated Administrators of Los Angeles is both a professional association of principals, vice principals and other central, regional and local administrators in the LAUSD school system as well as a labor union. We represent about 2700 educators in the LAUSD. We engage in policy, negotiations, politics, and employee benefits, rights and careers.
Sponsor's Responsibilities:
The activities of the extern related to my role will include research on best practices and policies in the nation's poorest and/or largest districts with respect to learning, safety, college-going rates, and other topics from science, civics and early education, adult education or designed by the extern's skills. The extern will assist a small staff of 5 in an intimate and professional setting. There is a school board race in lausd and I have access to a number of candidates.
Extern's Proposed Duties:
The extern will organize outreach to community organizations, government officials, state and national organizations advocating for the improvement of public education in the general education sphere. The extern will write letters, emails and social media communications to help the organization in its outreach. The externs will shadow the union leadership and staff to various events in the city and county. Students can also do work on charter school policy.
