New York Live Arts is a center of diverse artists devoted to body-based investigation that transcends barriers between and within communities led by world-renowned artist Bill T. Jones. Located in the heart of Chelsea in New York City, New York Live Arts is an internationally recognized destination for innovative movement-based artistry offering audiences access to art and artists notable for their conceptual rigor, formal experimentation and active engagement with the social, political and cultural currents of our times. At the center of this identity is Bill T. Jones, Artistic Director, a world-renowned choreographer, dancer, theater director and writer. We commission, produce and present performances in our 20,000 square foot home, which includes a 184-seat theater and two 1,200 square foot studios that can be combined into one large studio. Sponsor's Responsibilities:
The Chief Development Officer is responsible for creating short- and long-term fundraising plans to ensure the organization’s stability and growth. This senior director position leads staff and volunteers to plan, coordinate and assure implementation of strategies to develop donors and contributions to support the organization. The Chief Development Officer fosters a culture of philanthropy within the organization and assures that appropriate systems and procedures are in place to support fundraising development. The Chief Development Officer maintains accountability and compliance standards for all donors including individuals, foundations, government and corporate support.

Extern's Proposed Duties:
The externship will occur during the annual Live Artery performance showcase at Live Arts, and the extern will be given the project of developing a fundraising pitch tailored to individual and institutional prospects, based on their experience of the various performance showcases. Please note, this opportunity includes attending weekend and evening performances. In addition, the extern will observe the CDO's management of a team of five staff members collectively responsible for executing the organization's annual fundraising activities in the areas of Individual Giving, Corporate Sponsorship, Special Events, and Institutional Fundraising (a.k.a. grantwriting). The extern will sit in on team and individual meetings, and will observe the CDO's interactions with constituents, donors, and the Executive Director & CEO.
