Organization Description:
di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art maintains a permanent collection of works by Northern California artists that was originally collected by Rene di Rosa (1919-2010). The collection contains notable works by artists living or working in the San Francisco Bay Area from mid-twentieth century to the early twenty-first century, highlighting a story of experimentation of the artists of the region. It is displayed in part, on a rotating basis, in the galleries at di Rosa. Work not on view is held in professional offsite storage. Collection artists include Robert Arneson, Joan Brown, Enrique Chagoya, Bruce Conner, Judy Dater, Jay De Feo, Roy De Forest, Mark di Suvero, Viola Frey, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Mildred Howard, Robert Hudson, Paul Kos, and Manuel Neri, among others. Located on 217 scenic acres in the Carneros region of the Napa Valley, di Rosa offers visitors refuge to view the art of Northern California in a singularly unique setting. The property includes three separate galleries,

Sponsor's Responsibilities:
As Education and Civic Engagement Coordinator, the sponsor is responsible for the planning and implementation of several educational and outreach programs both on and off site. Programs typically focus on creating engagement with guests at the museum and the artwork on display. Off site programming typically includes hands on art making led by professional artists or nonprofit partners. Another dimension of the job is overseeing the volunteer corps and providing education and preparation for leading public and academic tours as well as implementing educational programs.

Extern's Proposed Duties:
The extern will observe the coordinator's interaction with community partners and volunteers, sit in on volunteer training sessions for upcoming exhibitions, and sit in staff meetings for a variety of functions and initiatives of the art center. The extern will be given a small research project to dive into the background of a featured exhibition artist and their history. Externs will present this information or create a digital summary for our volunteer corps to use as a resource.
