Externship Details:

Organization Description:
We take students from dreamers to doers in 24 months. Our programs offer the practical knowledge and experience that students need to succeed in agriculture and related industries. We provide access to the resources of a major land-grant institution in a unique, tight-knit community that focuses on each student’s success. The unique combination of general education and technical skills we offer will help students develop personally and professionally while preparing them to be productive leaders in an ever-changing industry.

Sponsor's Responsibilities:
In 4 words, my job is to teach math to farmers. The curriculum has been developed before I joined the faculty, building on over 20 years of math pedagogy by other lecturers in the Agricultural Institute. My research interests are to improve methods for teaching math (as a proxy for critical thinking skills) to a variety of vocational students (in this specific case, agriculture sciences).

Extern's Proposed Duties:
The extern will attend classes taught by the instructor and by other faculty in the department. The extern will interview college students in the program to understand their perspective on the value of math education as well as the reasons why they have struggled with math in the past.
