Externship Details:

Organization Description:
Basics Environmental is a small environmental consulting business specializing in performing environmental screens, Phase I & II environmental site assessments, and reviews for real estate and financial transactions throughout Northern California.

Sponsor's Responsibilities:
Before forming Basics in November 1994, Mr. Tom served for some of the top national environmental engineering consulting firms including MWH Global/The Mark Group, Inc., AECOM/Metcalf & Eddy and Kleinfelder. Through his experience with these firms, Mr. Tom has gained the knowledge in performing cost-effective, high quality Phase I & II environmental assessment reports and reviews in a clear, concise and effective way demanded by the real estate and financial industry. Under the direction of Mr. Tom, Basics provides the environmental status of a subject property or properties that support your process in evaluating the risks associated with providing financing for transactions. Depending upon applicable federal and state laws, the costs of environmental cleanup could materially affect your risk of loss and/or impair the value of your security interest in the uses of the subject property.

Extern's Proposed Duties:
From our downtown Oakland office, you will shadow and observe the initial phases of the environmental due diligence process. Watch and learn how we research historical information (Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps, City Directories, U.S.G.S. Topographic Maps, Aerial Photographs, etc.) and perform environmental site inspections as part of the environmental due diligence process in accordance with industry standards and client specific scopes of work.
